Who must take the UT Chemistry Assessment? All students wishing to enroll in CH301 for Spring 2019 must earn the minimum score of 85% on the ALEKS Chemistry assessment by 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 16 th, or you will be dropped from CH301. If you are a new, incoming student and unsure whether or not you will take CH301 in the spring, do not purchase the ALEKS Chemistry assessment until after Orientation (January 14 th).
No refunds will be issued. You will have an opportunity to meet with your Academic Advisor at Orientation and determine your spring course schedule. How does ALEKS Chemistry work? ALEKS Chemistry has two components: the Assessment and the Learning Modules. Upon first signing in, you engage in the Assessment. This is the initial exam that determines how much you already know and remember about chemistry. The better you do, the harder it gets (and the higher your end score). The Learning Modules are activated after you complete the initial assessment.
These include practice problems and tutorials. In the Learning Modules you will see a “pie” with clickable links.
When you select a topic to study, you will be given a practice problem. Answering problems correctly raises your ALEKS Chemistry score. Answering a problem incorrectly reveals the answer with a step-by-step solution to the problem and may temporarily lower your score until you get a similar question correct.

Placement Testing in Chemistry PLACEMENT TESTING IN General CHEMISTRY (CHEM 1230) and CHEMISTRY FOR HEALTH SCIENCES (CHEM 1120) General Chemistry I (CHEM 1230) Success in this course requires that you have sufficient background in mathematics and chemistry in order to understand the material and achieve your highest potential. We evaluate your preparation with a chemistry placement exam and a consideration of other information in your record. If the curriculum of your major requires you to complete CHEM 1230, in most cases you will be required to take a chemistry placement test. However, in this case you will also enroll in CHEM 1200, Problem-Solving in General Chemistry, which is a workshop class aimed at assisting you throughout the CHEM 1230 class. CHEM 1200 is a 1 credit hour course which meets weekly during which time you will be guided through exercises by an advanced student.
Study For Aleks Exam
Completing CHEM 1090, Elementary Chemistry, with a grade of C or above either at UT or another university and your credit is transferred to UT. If you do not meet any of these criteria you will need to complete CHEM 1090 and earn a grade of C or above in order to take CHEM 1230 in a subsequent semester. If you have not completed at least a year of high school chemistry you will enroll in CHEM 1090, Elementary Chemistry before taking CHEM 1230.
