Troy Bilt Manuals Chipper
Purchased chipper shredder and cannot locate manuals or parts lists for either the chipper or engine. This is a 10HP unit with electric start and is towable. I have 3 screens that came with it but need carb parts and chipper teeth. Help is appreciated!!!The chipper is a Troy-bilt, but was made possibly by Garden Way for Troy.
Garden Way went bankrupt and the chipper division was bought by Briggs & Stratton according to Troy-Bilt research dept. The model number 47024 is apparently a Garden Way number. Right now I need help in getting the many knife blades off so I can turn them over.
They have 4 usable sides and have only been used on 1 side. I'd like to locate any part listings or drawimgs someone might have for the engine or the shredder chipper.
John Brauer 804-436-2135. I do not think you are in as dire straights as you think you might be. Engine: I do not think they make Tecumseh motors anymore, but you can buy carbs for them I am sure. I think with shipping they are around $25, but they can be a pain to fuss with. More than likely it just got fuel varnish from that darn!#$%& ethanol they put in fuel now. They can also be cleaned by a small engine repair place, but to be honest with you, at the rates they charge per hour, you can almost spend as much money just buying a new engine from Harbor Freight. Its called 'repowering' and pretty darn easy to do.
I think a 10 HP engine can be had for around $250. Knives: I have a chipper just like yours and I just resharpen the blade. If you are unsure how to sharpen it, you can look online. All it takes is some sandpaper and a piece of glass since glass is perfectly flat. Honing the knife blade from 100 grit all the way up to 2500 grit will make the blade so sharp you literally can shave with it. If the knife has chips in it, it may need regrinding, but a sharpening service can do that, as well as hone the blade. I rehabbed a Tomahawk chipper, bought a carb that looked about the same on fleabay or amazon (don't remember) and it works fine.

The carb just has to match up with the barrel/screws, and have a flow rate pretty close to the original. Most for the same size engine based on the barrel size (will be in the specs of the new carb, so break out the old tape measure) will work in my. Spent about two days with parts cleaner trying to clean out varnish, then spent $13 and got a new one. What Travis said on the knives. Those again can be had on fleabay sometimes. The model number is generally stamped on the frame somewhere.
Oh, and if anyone wants a Tomahawk chipper shredder, you can have mine. I never use it. I do not use mine either. I am thinking about converting it to a chunker for small saplings instead.
It is easier to just take brush and burn it instead of chipping it.
Rated 5 out of 5 by BillChap from Best investment for 1 acre and larger properties I was on 2 acres of partially cleared residential property and was having to stack downed limbs and pile up leaves until burn bans were lifted until I got my 4325. Light weight enough to move easily around from stacks to piles and making my own mulch in the process. It always started on one pull and was very fuel efficient.
I had it serviced by a local dealer once in three years and was told it didn’t need new knives after two good seasons of use. Highly recommend to anyone need to chip/shred yard limps or leaves. Rated 5 out of 5 by JimmyC from a a leaf and Digestor Have had this equipment for about a year. Makes quick work of new and old branches. Great for yard clean up after a wind storm.
Fall leaf work is really easy. Equipment shreds leaves into a fine mulch for composting. Not a fan of the bag though, except for minimal quantity of branches. I find it difficult to operate the clip to secure the bag to the discharge chute. A larger clip would make it easier to secure and release the clip. Branch chute will digest branches up to 3 For leaves I lay a board below the exhaust chute and blow leaves or chips into a tarp with the back of the tarp slightly raised then haul the tarp away Great piece of equipment!!
